NHL, Disney gift card to pay for wedding gift cards for couples
The National Hockey League, the Walt Disney Company and the Disney Channel are partnering on a new online gift card program that gives couples and families the option to pay off wedding gift card debt using their own personal bank account.
The program is called “Dividend Cards for Couples,” and is designed to give couples a way to make a financial sacrifice to help their loved ones in the days and weeks leading up to the wedding.
“We wanted to make sure couples were not getting overwhelmed by all the debt that they had accumulated, so we thought this was the perfect solution to their debt problem,” said NHL senior vice president of global digital partnerships and communications Michael Kopecky.
“The gift cards will be used to pay down wedding debt in the weeks leading into the wedding and then in the months and years after.”
Gift cards are offered through a new app that is being rolled out across the NHL Network and Disney Channel and Disney World Resort, and the NHL says that couples can apply online, or by calling 1-800-PAL-COURSES or visiting the NHL gift card website.
“You will be able to choose your preferred payment method, pay off credit cards and apply for the gift card at any time,” said Kopeicky.
Gift cards can be redeemed for a variety of items, including tickets to sporting events, spa services and more.
In addition to wedding gift-giving, couples can use the cards to pay a portion of bills such as rent and utilities.
In a statement, Kopeacky said the partnership is designed for “the long-term health of our brands.”
“This is not an opportunity for us to just give away gift cards to a new audience,” he said.
“This partnership is about providing a safe, secure and affordable way for families and couples to make sacrifices and make financial sacrifices in the midst of the wedding season.”
